Reading Group Programmes

First Book Group

We are a group of 12 and we meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. We each have a chance to select a few books that we would like to read and we submit the list to the central Oxfordshire Reading Group library and hope that our choices are available. Our meetings are lively, very critical and great fun. One month, instead of a book discussion, we have an evening of favourite poems and readings while we enjoy an informal supper.

At present our group is full but if you would like further information please contact Eastlyn.

Our programme in 2011 :

  • January – Case Histories by Kate Atkinson
  • February – The History of Love by Nicole Krauss
  • March – Brooklyn by Colm Toibin
  • April –The Help by Kathryn Stockett
  • May – Cryers Hill by Kitty Aldridge
  • June – The Return by Victoria Hislop
  • July – Our ‘Literary’ evening
  • August – The Boy with the Top Knot by Sathnam Sanghera
  • September – Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson
  • October – The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen
  • November – Mr Pip by Lloyd Jones
  • December – No book meeting – Xmas Lunch at the pub

Please contact Eastlyn for further information.

Second Book Group

This is the newest WI book group; it was formed in 2007 when the original group was full. There are a few places available, new members are welcome.

We are a friendly informal group and meet on a Tuesday evening every 5/6 weeks. Meetings are held in member’s homes and we belong to the Oxfordshire library group reading scheme. Books are chosen by members and loaned without charge by the library.
