Throughout the year, everyone takes a turn in choosing and leading a walk, which is not very onerous as people pair up for this and you might get a chance to get to the pub twice. We also work a car-share system so there is always an opportunity to get a lift with someone. We currently have 15 names on the list with about 6 – 8 people walking each month. Our group is ‘all inclusive’. Friends, husbands and dogs are always welcome to join and usually do.

WALKS FOR 2011 January Was lead by Sue and Adrian. We walked from Goring Heath down to Mapledurham House and the mill. There we found a convenient stop to enjoy the sunshine, gaze at the river and pay a visit to the lovely family church. Then back up-hill through the woods to the start of the walk. Pub lunch at the ’PackHorse’
February This was led by Karin, only 5 walkers. We parked at the Crown Pub near Nettlebed , then followed the Ridgeway across a couple of fields passed the Ewelme Park Manor House towards Swincombe Church to vie the snowdrops. They did not disappoint and looked glorious in the sunshine. The walk afforded some fabulous views of the Clumps and Didcot Power station and ended very predictably at the Crown Inn.
March This year 8 of us braved a very chilly morning to walk across the Roman Road for a repeat of last year’s very successful Lent Walk. Several other people from Brightwell joined us for lunch.
April - Marion and Roger
May 18th - We park at the "Jolly Boatman" which is on the A4260 Banbury Road north of Kidlington and approaching Thrupp. The drive takes about 40 minutes. The walk is about 4 miles, level, but with lots of stiles. Dogs would have to be on leads because of livestock in the fields. We plan to lunch at the "Jolly Boatman".
June - TBA
July 20th - 14 of us met at the Village Hall (a record number). We started at 'The Red Lion' in Blewbury. Adrian and Sue took us through the picturesque village of Blewbury and up on the Downs. The steep ascent got the circulation going before relaxing into an easy stride along the Ridgeway where we enjoyed fabulous views and masses of wildflowers along the way. We finished (predictably) back at the Red Lion for lunch and a well-earned pint. A great walk, thank you very much to Adrian and Sue for organising the day.
August 17th - Liz and Sandra September - TBA October - TBA November - TBA December - TBA | ||
